On May 19, a California man was killed in a car crash while out celebrating his first wedding anniversary with his wife. The accident occurred near Yountville.
According to the Napa County Sheriff's Office, the couple, both residents of San Francisco, hired an Uber driver to transport them from the inn they were staying at in St. Helena to a restaurant in Napa. The victim, his wife and the driver were traveling south on Highway 29 in a 2015 Hyundai Sonata when a northbound 2012 Dodge Avenger crossed the double yellow line on a curve. The Avenger then sideswiped a pickup truck and smashed into the Hyundai head-on.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. His wife and the Uber driver suffered serious injuries and were transported to Queen of the Valley Medical Center. The Avenger driver also suffered significant injuries and was taken to the same hospital for treatment. The pickup truck driver was unhurt. According to the California Highway Patrol, neither driver was drunk or impaired by drugs. The accident remains under investigation.
A head-on collision can be caused by a number of negligent driving behaviors. When someone is killed by a negligent driver, the decedent's surviving family members may want to have Costa Mesa legal representation for fatal auto accidents. An attorney could review the accident reports and gather evidence showing that the victim died as a result of the at-fault driver's actions. This evidence could then be used as the basis for a wrongful death lawsuit that seeks appropriate compensation for the losses that have been sustained.
