GM to recall thousands of pickup trucks and SUVs

California residents who own four-wheel drive full-size SUVs or pickup trucks manufactured by General Motors between 2014 and 2018 may be wise to leave their vehicles in two-wheel drive for the time being. The nation's largest automaker has announced that it is recalling more than 600,000 Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Yukon and GMC Sierra models to remedy a potentially dangerous software glitch. The problem, which can cause unintended and erratic braking, only manifests itself when the vehicles' four-wheel drive systems are activated.

GM recalls more Chevrolet Trax SUVs over welding issue

California owners of General Motors vehicles might be interested to learn that the automaker has issued a recall for 107,000 more Chevrolet Trax SUVs due to a potential crash risk. GM dealers will inspect and repair affected vehicles for free.

Passenger airbag defect leads to recall of 144,000 Audi vehicles

Residents of California who drive an Audi vehicle will want to see if they are affected by a certain recall that the automaker announced in August 2019. A little more than 144,000 Audi vehicles are being recalled for a defect in the front-seat passenger airbag.

Monsanto ordered to pay $2 billion to long-time Roundup users

A California jury has handed down an award of more than $2 billion to a couple after a finding that Monsanto's weed killer contributed to their cancer. The couple will also receive $55 million to cover medical bills and for pain and suffering. The couple, a 76-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman, had used Monsanto's Roundup weed killer for roughly 30 years for landscaping.

Hyundai, Kia investigated for vehicle fires

California residents with Kia or Hyundai vehicles may be interested to know that several states are investigating the two automakers after a series of automobile fires in Connecticut. The Connecticut Attorney General has stated that there have been hundreds of reports of such fires. It is not yet known how many states are taking part in the investigation.

Investigation continues into airbag shrapnel

California motorists may have heard that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began an investigation in July 2015 after reports emerged of people being injured by flying shrapnel from airbag inflators during traffic accidents. The investigation centered on ARC Automotive, which had developed the airbag inflators. In the course of the investigation, the NHTSA estimated that 8 million Hyundai, Fiat Chrysler, General Motors and Kia vehicles in the United States had the airbag inflators in question.

Ford recalls trucks with risk for under-the-hood fires

In December 2018, Ford recalled more than 874,000 late-model pickup trucks across North America. Exactly 410,289 of those trucks were in the U.S., so truck owners in California should take notice. The recall covers Ford F-150 models from 2015 to 2019 as well as Super Duty and Chassis Cab models from 2017 to 2019.

Ram recalls 1.4 million pickups due to tailgate issue

California motor vehicle owners may be interested to learn that Ram Trucks is recalling 1.4 million pickup trucks across the U.S. and Canada due to a problem with their tailgates. Apparently, the tailgates could fly open while the vehicles are in motion, potentially allowing cargo to slide out into traffic.

Mazda recalls 270,000 more vehicles due to air bags

More vehicles are being recalled due to defective Takata air bags. Mazda is recalling 270,000 vehicles over fears the air bag could explode during a crash, which could injure or kill the vehicle's occupants. Some California motorists may be affected by this action.
