Instant Pot recalls one type of multi-cooker

California consumers who own an Instant Pot Gem multi-cooker might want to check to see whether their product is one that has been recalled by the company. Instant Pot issued the recall on March 1. One week earlier, the company had said consumers should stop using the cookers while they worked out a solution to the fact that the units are a fire hazard because they can melt after overheating. The recall is for only one of the 14 pots the company makes.

Double Insight, the parent company of Instant Pot, reported more than 100 overheating incidents. Five had led to fires that caused minor damage although there have been no injuries.

According to a senior policy analyst with Consumers Union, when a company has an issue with one product, it should check to see whether those issues apply to any other products. The analyst also said all consumers who have the type of pot that has been recalled should return it for a refund.

Sometimes, consumers can be badly injured by a defective product. If this happens, they might want to consult an attorney about Costa Mesa defective product and machinery legal representation. If many people have been injured by the defective product, a class action lawsuit might be possible. The company might agree to a settlement that provides compensation to cover the expenses of an injured person. However, if the compensation offer is insufficient or the victim is unhappy with the terms of the settlement, a lawsuit might be the next step. Elements that will be important in the lawsuit are whether the company knew about the potential harm and whether it acted negligently.
