What sort of photos could help after a car crash?

On Behalf of | May 5, 2025 | Auto Accident Injuries |

Photos taken immediately after a car crash can often be incredibly useful in explaining how the crash occurred. Police officers who attend a crash scene typically take some photos, but those involved should consider taking some of their own, if they are able to. Snapping some photos with your phone camera yourself could be helpful.

Here are some of the ones you should take.

The overall scene

You want some photos that take in the whole scene. One that can show the weather conditions, the amount of traffic, the overall layout of the road, the resting positions of vehicles involved and the trail of debris.

Close-ups of the vehicles involved

Photos of damage to the vehicles involved is crucial for more than just claiming compensation for repairs. It can help crash investigators understand where the impact occurred, and with what force or speed. For example, if the other driver falsely claims you were way over the speed limit and ran into the side of them, investigators might expect to see a big dent in the side of their vehicle. If there is not, then it could help you show they were lying.

Photos of your injuries

Photos of your injuries and those your passengers suffered can help prove that those injuries occurred in the crash, reducing the chance that insurers can claim they occurred elsewhere.

If you do manage to take photos after a crash, take them to someone with legal experience in these matters. They can help you use them to advance your claim for any compensation you may be due.
